Tranent is a town in East Lothian, Scotland, Located within the Edinburgh Metropolitan Area. It is about 11 miles (18 km) east of Edinburgh. It is one of the oldest towns in East Lothian.Population of the town is approximately 11,642. Once an important mining town, coal was first worked in Tranent in the 12th century.

The town is near the A1 Edinburgh to London road and the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass. To get onto the A1, you must drive through Macmerry and follow the Dual-Carriageway towards Dunbar and then follow road signs to Berwick-upon-Tweed and The South.
