2-Day Combo-Saver Private Tour: Essential Athens highlights with Cape Sounion and Temple of Poseidon plus Delphi
Exclusive to your group alone, this private tour combines 3 of the most popular tours; a walking tour of all main Athens highlights (Acropolis, Hadrian\'s Arch, Temple of Zeus, Olympic stadium, National Gardens, Parliament & changing of the guard, Ancient Agora & Temple of Hephaestus); a coastal road trip to the spectacular Temple of Poseidon; and on Day 2, an unforgettable visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Delphi and its museum. All are brought to life along the way by our knowledgeable & considerate native English speaking guide.

Day1: ATHENS & CAPE SOUNION
From one awe inspiring site to the next is how your day starts, unfolds & just keeps going! After meeting at your hotel we start with the Acropolis learning of the turbulent history of the site, its construction, and aspects such as the mythological struggles of the gods over the name of the city. Passing picturesque Neoclassic houses we arrive at the Temple of Zeus and Hadrian?s arch for an insight into the important Roman period of the city and visit the nearby Olympic Stadium and former Royal Palace and National Gardens?, now a green oasis in the city center. Emerging at Syntagma Square we see the Greek Parliament building and experience the changing of the National guard, the bustling Ermou street, famous ?Plaka? market and explore the ?Agora?, the market place of the ancient Athenians with the near complete Temple of Hephaestus.

Pausing for lunch with wonderful views to the ancient site, we discus how the ancient Greeks would have gathered to trade, exchange news, worship & carry out the street politics of the day. Refreshed, we drive out of the city for around 50 minutes enjoying the Aegean coast line to explore the beautiful area of Sounion and the breathtaking Temple of Poseidon perched on the shear cliff edge. We learn of its importance in Greek history, its story & mythology and of previous visitors from Theseus to Lord Byron during his own Grand Tour before returning you to your hotel in the evening.

Day2: DELPHI
We head north passing through some of the most beautiful countryside of Greece towards the slopes of Mt Parnassus to arrive at Delphi. Centre of the ancient world as designated by Zeus, home to the eternal flame, sacred Oracle, and Pythian Games. This unique site dating back as far as 1500BC provides a tangible connection in history between the pre-classical and classical periods up to Roman times. We take all the time you need to enjoy the magnificent scenery & fully tour the Castalian Spring, ancient sanctuary of Apollo, and sanctuary of Athena. We visit the impressive on-site museum with highlights such as the Naxian Sphinx and bronze sculpture of a charioteer and on our return stop at the pretty mountain village of Arachova perched at 3,116 feet (950 meters) to enjoy the village atmosphere, views and local craft shops before returning.

A private tour exclusive to your group allowing flexibility and consideration for the needs of small philosophers & experienced travelers alike, our English speaking driver will take full and special care of you during you trip and provide all the historical, mythological, ancient & modern context along the way to help you make the most of the sites you will visit. Our driver/guide is not allowed by law to accompany you into ticketed sites themselves. We collaborate with guides licensed to enter sites & can provide these if requested.
